Col. Jeff Cooper defined the Scout Rifle criteria as below:

  • 7.62x51mm /  .308 Win caliber
  • Ideal unloaded weight with accessories of 3 kg - 3.5 kg maximum
  • Overall length of 1 meter or less
  • Ghost ring iron sights
  • Forward-mounted telescopic sight, typically 2 to 3 power (not mandatory)
  • Capable of 3 shot 2 MOA groups or less at 200 meters

Mossberg's MVP Scout meets or exceeds all of these requirements with the added benefit of being able to feed from M1A and AR10 style magazines. Threaded and fitted with an A2 type flash-hider, this rifle is suppressor ready. A general purpose rifle, it will serve hunters and those looking for a rugged practical rifle well.

You get a lot for your money - the ones we have shot have returned an accuracy of around 1 MOA or under, which is superb for such a quick handling heavy hitting rifle at this price point.

Whilst not perhaps in keeping with the true Scout scope concept, we feel the Schmidt & Bender 1.5-8x26 is the ideal partner for this close to medium range rifle. Add in a set of quick detachable ERA-TAC mounts and you have the ability to go back to iron sights rapidly if needs be. For those more budget conscious shooters, the rifle can be supplied from Mossberg with a Vortex Crossfire II Scout 2-7x32 long eye-relief scope.

The rifles feature:

    • Picatinny scout rail
    • Back up ghost ring iron sights
    • Oversize tactical bolt handle
    • 16.25" Medium bull barrel threaded 5/8×24
    • A2 type flash-hider
    • Muzzle thread protector
    • LBA Adjustable trigger (3-7lbs)
    • 1 x Action lock
    • 1 x Sling
    • 2 x Forend Picatinny rails
    • 1 x 10 round magazine
    • User manual
